This boy is growing up fast! He's learning "new" things every day! Today it was taking the cookies off the pan!

"No big deal" you say! Well to this mommy it is! 1. I LOVE to bake and to have a helper in the kitchen with me, well what more can I say! 2. Spike's never been interested in "learning"! He's very independent, but to ask me to show him how to do something, that's a different story!

Today, I'm thankful for the "little things in life".

5. Playing "Slick's Surprise Birthday!" (which included loading up the gator and pretending all the goodies in the back were Slick's birthday presents! Only to have to load them back up to put them away! Fun times when you're 5 and 6!)

Like father like son! The only difference is the "level" of paper work! To some, coloring is important. To another, it's the spelling word! And yet to others, it finances! To each his own! I love it!

Playroom!

The rule is, "The playroom should look like this (see below) every night before you go to bed"!

However, this is how it looked this morning, and probably every night for the last week! (Which is why we have the playroom UPSTAIRS! So I don't have to look at it in the living room! I never go in this room!)

So I spent about an hour while the boys were outside cleaning it up! Vacuumed, threw out or donated some toys (sh! don't tell the boys!) and put toys where they belong! I'm not really sure why I do this, because not even a half an hour later, this is what I found...

And...Oh well!

And for those of you who are wondering, it IS CLEAN tonight! Daddy did a good job getting them to put away the things they got out!

The saying, "Please excuse the mess, my children are making memories!" is put to life in this room!

This is the scene I came across at 6:45 this morning! "What the big deal about that?" you say. Well, I do believe this is the FIRST time ever that he sat down ON HIS OWN and started reading! He's been "reading" for homework and when mommy makes him for a year and a half now and it's been TORTURE on all of us! I think it's starting to click! YAY! I'm so thrilled! Everywhere we go he tries to read signs or pick out words he knows! It's so fun! Can't wait to watch him grow!
(Too bad daddy doesn't get as excited as I do, I could count that as his birthday present! Oh well, good thing I planned ahead and got him one already! More pictures to come of the birthday boy!)

The day has arrived! Spike's been waiting for this day for about a week! He's still got 8 days till his birthday, but he IS my PLANNER! He just KNEW it was coming! And yes, he was right! Grandma Vawter (and Grandpa too!) came through! Spike and Daddy's birthday package arrived today! Do you think he's excited!

Of course, even though his birthday is NOT today! There was still a little something in there for him for today! And Slick too!

Now to hold him off on his real gift for another 8 days! Wish me luck!

Of course, while Spike and daddy are MAKING their cookies, Slick is eating the REAL stuff! Double Stuff OREO'S! Now that's tempting! (Gotta love OREO teeth!)

On the schedule tonight was...

A friendly game of dominoes!

It's been so fun teaching the boys to play dominoes. Both mommy and daddy grew up playing this game! Brings back many memories! Nan would be so proud!

Look out Grandpa Vawter, by the time we come out for vacation, you're gonna have some experienced domino players! They can't wait to play with you! (Although, Spike still thinks the dominoes were made to stand on their sides in front of each other so that you push one and the all fall down! Some boys just never grow up!)

Apple Picking

Sunday we went apple picking!

But, we can't just pick apples, we must have some fun too!

Yep, it was a fun day with friends! 76 apples to can and freeze! Let the fun begin!

Peaches!

So what ever happened to all my peaches?

Well, six bags went into the freezer for smoothies through out the next couple of months,

4 pies frozen (already used 1!),

5 jars of jam,

2 fresh cobblers, (either eaten by the hubby or given away!),

and 3 fresh pies, (again, either eaten by the man or given away!I really enjoyed my work with the peaches! I love to be able to pull a bag out of the freezer and know that I made it!

Now that the peaches are done, I'm on to apples!

Today's a big day in our house! We celebrate 2 birthdays! Slick shares his birthday with Gramma Dale! Some days he thinks it's GREAT and other days, not so much! Of course today, it was just fine!

Here they are! Happy Birthday, Muzz and Slick!

We started our day with none other then a stop at good old Dunkin Donuts! A big hit, as usual!

He's such a clown! When he wants to, he can really ham it up! He's a ball of energy and very dramatic (not sure where THAT comes from! HAHA!)

Brother got in on the action too! He's not short on the sweet tooth, that's for sure!

Munchkins for a treat at school, can't go wrong there either!

He spent the day at school where he shared his munchkins, his class sang to him and he got to pick from the prize box! What a great day, right!

We then headed off to Dave and Busters! The boys had never been there before, neither had Gramma! Of course, we can't just sit and wait for our food, we must make faces and be silly, right?

Then we got to business! GAMES!!!!!!!!!

Slick wanted a "merican flag" cake this year. I'm really not sure why, but I think Gramma did a fabulous job! Good thing we have her around, right?

Happy Birthday to 2 VERY special people in my life! Can't imagine life with out you!

Demolition Derby

Tonight we spent the night with GREAT friends,

Making great memories,

At my first ever demolition derby!

I have never experienced anything like it! I would have to say it is "bumper cars on steroids!" I think I'd have to say it was one of the funnest things I've done in a LONG time. Being the mother of boys, I'm thinking there will be many more in my future! Here are just a couple of highlights!

The "American flag car" was one of the kids favorites! If you look close, you will see there is no tire on the back wheel! That didn't stop him though! That amazed me!

Pictures just do NOT give you the full effect!

The highlight for the boys, the "Mystery Machine" on fire, TWICE! They really wanted it to win, but if it had to go down, at least it went down burning! They didn't think the firemen were going to do anything all night, but they came through for them!

This is my favorite picture of the evening! Good thing Uncle A came prepared! This was pre-ear plugs, or "plug-ins" as our little princess called them!

It might have been LOUD, but man, it was super fun! Looking forward to the next one!

Coming to an End- Day 6

Yep, I guess that means the end is HERE! Today we headed off to the "first day of school". We had orientation this morning! Counts as a day, but the first OFFICIAL day of FIRST GRADE is Monday! WOW! Here it is!

So today, being the last "business day" before school and hurricane Irene, we had some errands to run! I figured we'd finish off at McDonald's with and OUTDOOR playland! Great idea, right?

WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is what greeted us!

The boys were very good about it! But I did think we should do something fun! So cookies seemed to do the job!

Oh well, some things are beyond our control! Speaking of, the boys can't wait to be "in a hurricane!" HAHA! They have NO IDEA! Should be interesting!

We are stuck inside (going stir-crazy) today! Spike keeps asking, "How many more sleeps, Mom?" Today is 4 sleeps. I guess he's ready! He asked me for two hangers! I had no idea why! Well, I went upstairs to his room and found out why very quickly!

I love the socks and boxers! When I went to take a picture, he said, "Mom, make sure you get my shoes!" HAHA! Too funny! This kid's mind never stops! I love how he's always thinking ahead! He's definitely my "planner"!

Last night was the final night in our SWAT program at church! Due to traveling, holidays and rain, we were only able to make it to a few weeks! Spike didn't seem to mind it since was at least able to make it to that last night, since it was "donut night"!

The theme for this year's program was "Rescue 911"! We weren't there for the fire truck night but we did get to see the ambulance! The best part about this is that my aunt, an EMT, drove the ambulance to church. She opened the back and took the kids through!

Today we made cookies! The boys have been asking since BEFORE we went on vacation! So can't put this off any longer either!

They both rolled their own. They did a great job!

Still going...and still HAPPY! This has to be the longest they've lasted yet! My little boys are growing up!

Coming to an End- Day 1 Part 2!

After dinner tonight we thought we'd try again! To find ducks that is. I asked a few people today and they all told me the same park, so we tried there! We loaded up the boys bikes and headed out. Got there and I ran the track while they rode their bikes. No sign of ducks the whole way around. We got back to the car and we heard a bunch. There was another family that I saw going into down by the banks with a bag of bread. Then we heard the ducks, actually I think they were geese, even LOUDER. We turned to see the family RUNNING away! It was so loud! The family ran to their car and got in. There was nothing we could do since the boys had their bikes. Slick went to hide around the back of a car only to come around the front with 2 little buggers following him. I can't beleive the boys were actually kind of scared! These things were "nasty", according to Slick!

I did get the boys to pose for a picture with their bikes! You can see the flock in the background.

I asked if they wanted to just get our bread out and feed them since they were there! They said "No way! Let's just get in the car! Hurry!" We did. I figured we'd find some up stream!

Sure enough! Two lonely duckies out on a date! They just floated in front of us the whole time! I thought the "nasty" ones would be there sooner or later, but they never came. The boys were very glad about that!

So, at last, we got to feed the ducks! Only gave them each a piece since there were only two!

All-in-all, it was a success, I guess! The only thing is, we've still got bread to get rid of! So, we'll try again tomorrow, maybe!

Seven more sleeps till school starts! This mommy's trying to make the MOST of this very short week! So today we went to the park. It's a park right in town, but I keep avoiding it cause it's SO BIG! Can't avoid it any longer! (Actually we went looking for ducks to feed, but there weren't any so we ended up on the playground!)

"Gramps"

October 26, 1924-July 23, 2011

I don't really know why, but I found myself missing my "Gramps" today! Since I lived about 1,000 miles away from him, I only got to see him once a year! Oh how I cherished those times. Just knowing there won't be any more phone calls, letters sent, pictures taken, trips "down town", trips to the "root beer" stand, trips to the "kwik trip", or just conversations on the couch makes me very sad!

I'm so looking forward to seeing him again one day. Losing someone you love so much only makes heaven that much more real!

Happy Father's Day-Day 3 and the BEACH!!!!!

Before we headed to the beach for a quick over-night stay, we HAD to leave daddy his surprise! Spike thought we'd leave it on his pillow to find when he got home! That's just what we did. He got a gift card for Dunkin Donuts with a card that said, "Love you A LATTE!" (so go and enjoy one on us!)

Headed to the beach and found this view right outside our window! Does it get any better then this? Our vote, "NOPE!" Thanks mom!

Got unloaded and headed to the "sandbox"! The boys took off!

Just got comfy when the rain came! UGH! SO we packed up all 7 kids and headed back!

This is what rain looks like when it hits the sand. I'd never seen it before, never really thought about it actually! It was pretty neat!

Poor Slick, waiting patiently for the rain to end!

We did get to go in the pool for a while! This little fishy did not wear his swimmies the whole time! He's learning so much. He LOVES to be under the water.

We couldn't let the rain ruin our trip! The boys did great. They adjusted to the change in plans very well. The first day we didn't see the sun at all, but the boys really didn't mind. I'm so thankful they just went with it!

So, to end the day, we just HAD to get some Kohr Brothers! (I've NEVER had it, but everyone else seems to think it's a MUST!) Looks like Slick enjoyed it!

Happy Father's Day-Day 2

Today's "gift" was what prompted us celebrating "Father's Day" all week long! Since it rained on Saturday, we ended up at Michael's to do a little "make and take" project. Spike has always enjoyed these events, but especially more now that he's older. He was SO excited about this one. Anything that's FOR daddy or INVOLVES daddy, he's all about!

Super Sunday and "Happy Father's Day" day 1!

Spike's been wanting to show daddy what he's "learned"! He finally talked him into going swimming. He's so proud of himself. No swimmies is a BIG deal for a 6 yr old! He's so NOT ready to swim the ocean, but he does well in our pool since he can touch when he needs a breather!

Daddy's more fun then mommy! They had a blast playing games!

On another note, today starts our week of celebrating "Father's Day"! I took the boys to Michael's while daddy was at Kohl's. Here they are painting their T-shirt! Spike was NOT into the colors they had to offer! But so be it, right! They decided on a star!

All those little lines, well let's just call this a "shooting star!" Thanks to the very nice girl helping us turn "lemons into lemonade!" This is what happens when you leave a 4 and 6 yr old in control of the decorations, right? Oh well, as with SO MANY things in life, I've got to just let them do it their own way! It makes it that much more special, right?

My boys have been wanting to throw a birthday party for Henry (Slick's stuffed dog) for quite a while now. So of course they ask AGAIN today, right after I had CLEANED their room! I'm really working on saying "Yes" a little more often, so today I thought this would be a good "yes"!

So here they are!

And YES, they are ALL their stuffed animals! You can't invite one and not the other, right?

In case any one's interested in the details...

the menu consisted of Reese's Puffs cereal, Fruity Pebbles, pretzels and gummies!

They played three games: A matching game, Little People Bingo and Candy Land Bingo.

And just so you know, it was a DISASTER when they were done. Should have taken a picture of that!

Oh well, they ALL had a great time!

Oh yea and today Henry turned three and tomorrow "she" turns four!

Summer Break Day 4 (aka Mommy's birthday)

Then it was off to Texas Roadhouse with my mom to "celebrate" my birthday!

Of course we had to have some fooling around by a certain little one!

Thanks to my boys for "riding" that saddle for me! (By the way, in this picture they were watching the servers as they SHOUTED to the restaurant! The boys expressions are very typical! Slick eating it all up and Slick thinking "You guys are CRAZY drawing all that attention to yourselves! Really?")

You guessed it, we went strawberry picking! The boys don't eat strawberries, but I do! They did great.

Ok, so maybe one of them didn't do too many strawberries! But he did pick me a flower! Works for me!

It was a HOT one! We met our friends at 10:00 am, and I think my car read about 90 dregrees already!

Summer Break Day 1!

Well, we wasted NO time getting outside! As soon as I could get out of work, we headed straight to the park! It was a HOT one! Spent a little time there then headed home to jump in the pool to cool off! SO thankful that my hubby is willing to take the time to keep up on the pool so the boys and I can use it! So refreshing!

Oh my goodness! I can't believe I failed to mention the fact that I will be an AUNT to number 12 by the time the year is over! WOW! How blessed I am. Just spent the evening with 1/2 of them! LOVE EVERY ONE of them!

So congrats go out to my brother-in-law and sister-in-law! A very Merry Christmas present to me! Just wish they lived close enough to enjoy "it"!

Happy Mother's Day

I just had to smile a few times this weekend as I watched my boys with their daddy, especially Spike. Daddy had been gone to Mexico all week so when he got home, they didn't want to leave his side. Now while some mothers may think it's no big deal, I think it's very special. It was a very precious time for me. They were so happy doing whatever daddy did. I love that.
Here is Spike "helping" daddy change the oil in the van. He was so excited to watch it drain (this, I'll never understand! But I don't have to! Spike was so happy, that's what's important!) I sure hope he keeps wanting to learn all his daddy knows about cars and then some more! Keep it up, Dude!
Now when it comes to the guitar, I personally could think of better things, but we'll take it!
My boys have always loved when daddy gets out his guitar. In fact, Spike has been bugging me to let him play for graduation. HAHA! His teacher's doing her best to get him to settle for "playing" for his class one day!
So here's Slick, playing his "air guitar"! HAHA! This picture doesn't even begin to show the enthusiasm he has while playing.

And here's Spike with daddy again! (And yes, it's the same shirt he had on Saturday too! Daddy brought it back from Mexico! He took it off long enough to wash it!)

So, this mommy had a very Happy Mother's Day weekend! I couldn't be happier that, at least for right now, that they want to be JUST LIKE DADDY!

So, today was a BIG day at our house. As you can see, Spike lost his "second" tooth. This was the FIRST one to wiggle it's way out, the right way! It's been wiggly for a while. This morning when I asked if I could wiggle it, he told me to only wiggle it "in" not "out. It was getting to be time for it to come out and he knew it! He did not want it to happen. I knew it was going to end up being "one of those"! You know, the ones that this kids baby and baby till there's just nothing left to baby, and it just falls out! I didn't want him to get to that point, so Gramma Dale did the old "bite-the-tissue" trick! Worked like a charm! Not sure how she does it! Of course daddy tried to get her to tell her secret! Sure hope she can hold on to her magic for another couple of year! Of course Spike asked me to write another note to the tooth fairy. He really wants his cousin to see it tomorrow! So I hope the tooth fairy leaves the tooth again this time! What in the world do you do with those things? I've got the first one in my drawer. He hasn't asked for it since he showed his teacher. Now I've got another one! Oh well, I'm sure his little wife will want them one day, right? Also, check out the video. BIG day for Slick too!
I'm still in shock over this one. I thought he'd be seven and still riding with training wheels! Can't dress himself, or so he seems to THINK he can't, but he can ride a bike! I'm super proud of him. Daddy just suggested they try it. He was game! WOW! I figured he'd fall to the right side, immediately! He's already worn out a pair and a half of training wheels! I thought we'd be on our third pair soon. NOPE! He sure proved me wrong! He was so proud of himself! What a great accomplishment! Way to go, Slick! Now as for this mommy! It's been a big day for her too! Hanging up the training wheels and playing tooth fairy all in on day! WOW! Two little boys are growing up!

Ok so you might be wondering about my "new adventure" with vegetables. Well, I'm going to have to say 2 strikes! My muffin/brownie/donut thingys, I'm the only one who's tried one. I didn't care for them. It wasn't because of the veggies, but the recipe. I don't usually care for homemade chocolate things, but I thought I'd give them a try. I didn't taste any of the veggie mix, so that was good. I think I'll try to just add the mixture to some plain old brownies and see how it goes. I've not given up on that one yet.
However, the mac and cheese that I tried tonight gets a thumbs DOWN. I told the boys we were having mac and cheese. Spike took one look at it and said, "that doesn't look like macaroni!" I tried to talk him out of it, but he would have no part of it! Slick at least TRIED it. Took one bite and said, "Ew, there's no cheese in it!" Tried to argue that one too, cause I know I put cheese in it, but all I keep getting was, "I don't taste it!" I took one bite of it and tasted the cauliflower immediately! We'll leave it for the final judge when he comes home. He'll have to cast the final unbiased vote! We'll see what he says! In the mean time, it's the drive thru on our way to church! I now know that I've got to have a "plan B" for the next time I attempt. I really thought this was going to be a hit. OOPS! Not so much!
Oh well, at least Slick's eating "cheese chippies!" I picked up some veggie chips the other day, he LOVES them! We'll get those veggies in one way or another!

Take a good look at this cutie. He won't be looking like this for long! Today, he felt his tooth wiggle! The bottom left (right if you're looking at him) is loose. I've been feeling it move just a tiny bit for a couple of weeks now. Today when we felt it, his eyes got really big and he just laughed. He finally felt it. Now he can wiggle it with his tongue. Won't be long now!
Aw, my baby is growing up! WOW! Will the excitement ever end? I love it!

So I was getting Slick in the car yesterday and he says to me, "You know mommy, if Jesus gave me a DOG, I'd be so happy!" To which I just laughed, then of course texted my hubby, mom, sisters and mother-in-law! I got a few responsed from them that made me laugh. Then as I was driving, I just started laughing. He then asked what I was laughing at. I just told him I thought about his comment and it made me laugh. So he says, "Oh so you LIKE dogs now?" NOPE, can say that I do! He says, "Oh that's ok, cause cats are better anyway. They don't pee on your leg!"

HAHAHAHA! Gotta love that kid!

Slick is still not himself, so I've got a few extra hours at home with him till my mom's available to watch him. So Slick and I will have a date with Playhouse Disney this morning!

Those of you who know me, know my "love/hate" relationship with veggies! You know I WANT to love them, but reality is I hate them! So for some time I've been trying to figure out a way to get myself to just LIKE them! I've tried different ones here and there. Cooked/baked/steamed them all different ways, to no avail! The really bad thing is, my kids are following right along. So, I've finally decided to embark on an new adventure. I've dug out my cookbooks, borrowed some from the library and search the web. I've picked out a few recipes to try SNEAKING them in our "everyday meals". Now this is going to be extremely difficult considering that I KNOW they're in there. When my mom or sisters try to "sneak" them into something, I always figure it out. We'll see what happens!

Now really, I do think this looks SO YUMMY! Just can't get my taste buds to feel the same way!

Got to admit here though, not nearly as appetizing! Nonetheless, here they are!

Ok, so here her have "legal donuts" ready to go in the oven. Yes, that's what they're called. Since I don't have a donut pan (hint, hint, mom), I had to make them into muffins. Not sure how I'm going to get this one by Slick, but I'm sure going to try! Spike, he doesn't care what "shape" his sugar comes in!

Remember that yummy looking mix of blueberries and spinach, well, that's nicely hidden inside! Can't wait for them to cool enough to try them! I'll let you know how it goes!

New Bed?

So, after "bullying" on his brother this morning, I sent Spike to his room for a time out! When I went up to talk to him, I found him sitting on my "hope chest". Of course, right away I got on him for not being in his bed like I told him. His response was, "Mom, I AM on my NEW bed!" HAHA!
Here's a little background. (First of all, I guess it had been so long since he saw the top of my hope chest! He didn't even know what to do with it! (See prior post picture for more detail!) HAHA!) So last night I let the boys sleep in my bed since Slick wasn't feeling so well. I went to bed with them. Spike INSISTED that he was sleeping on his "new bed", so I let him have a little fun thinking it wouldn't last long. He made a comment about how he was going to make his own bed in the morning. I was thrilled to hear that. Not really fully understanding, I guess, that he was talking about THIS NEW BED! HAHA! I totally had forgotten about this when the morning came. He OBVIOUSLY didn't! Don't know why I'm surprised, this kid doesn't forget ANYTHING!
Gotta love him!
PS. Don't you love how he even "decorated" it? He took the pictures off his dresser! Too funny! I really don't want to break it to him that it's NOT his "new bed"!

In like a Lion!

March greeted us on Tuesday, very much like a lion. Since I started working "full time" in October, I just haven't been able to get into a routine! I know, October was 5 months ago. I've for the most part been able to "survive", but not THRIVE! SO this week, I took a dive! I had all I could take. IT (my house) got the best of me. So the BIGGEST "THANK YOU" ever goes to my fabulous niece! I picked her up from school, bought her lunch and she entertained my kids for 2 full hours! Oh the things I can get done in 2 hours! It was "just what the Dr ordered!"
Now, I've posted pictures of IT! Viewer Discretion is Advised! Keep in mind though, pictures do NOT do it justice! You know it's bad when the hubby says, "Yea, you're right, when I got home last night, it was pretty bad!"
Below is the boys room. I had already begun picking up in there before I took the picture! Still, I think Spike's dresser threw up! Oh my!
Next we go to the play room. Now mind you, I'd been in the playroom twice already this week only to have picked it up, turned the light off, to find a little guy meet me at the doorway to go in to play! UGH!

Oh and our bedroom, there really are NO WORDS!!!!!!!!!!!

And the living room, well let me remind you that these pictures just didn't portray the REAL LIFE situation the way I wanted them to!

Now, the laundry, well, there are 10 loads busting out of the hampers here!

I'm happy to say that when I went to bed at 8:00, EXHAUSTED! 6 of the 8 rooms were cleaned and 6 of the 10 loads were clean, folded and put away.

Good thing, cause today, I've got a little one with a fever who just wants to sit on the couch and have mommy hold him today! So while I finish the laundry, at least I'm not feeling TRAPPED! Little by little I'll finish the other two rooms! (one of which is the PLAYROOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

So it was 43 degrees here today and we were OUTSIDE in sweatshirts. Do you think someone has SPRING FEVER? Yep, it's ME! Of course the boys didn't object to it! I got the yard cleaned up from the twigs/branches that had fallen over the winter. Boy, do I feel better now. I just can't stand to have things lying in the front yard. I don't understand it (and neither does my husband), but that's how it is. So I've been itching to get that done. Today was the day to do it!
Meanwhile, the boys were just plain itching to get OUT! So of course Slick goes right for his bike. I'm so thankful for this. About this time last year I remember talking to my mom about the fact that he just would NOT ride a bike. Now to me, I thought every little boy was born to ride a bike, so when he didn't, I was worried. But my mom reassured me that he would be fine. She was right. He LOVES his bike, even though it might not look like it in this picture. Of course when we go outside, we MUST have a snack, or so that's what he thinks! How pathetic is he? Really laying it on thick.
Spike on the other hand, he's been wanting to play basketball. So I pumped up his ball and he brought out the hoop! He was so exited!

Slick tried a few shots. He seems a little more interested in it this year. Should be fun!

Spike was trying to shoot from different places. He's much more aware of the "game" this year. I'm looking forward to watching him this summer. I'm thinking we're going to need to invest in a "real" hoop soon!

Look at that form! I see some potential. What do you think, Gramps? Is he gonna make you proud?

Oh and YES it went in!

Nighty Night!

The new thing in our house is for the boys to both sleep in Slick's bed on the bottom. They think they can't sleep alone! (And most night, I think it's true!)
So when they're getting ready for bed, 6 out of 7 nights you'll hear Slick ask Spike if he'd like to sleep with him. Of course he never says NO!
So here they are! I personally don't think it looks very comfy, but I guess they do!
Of course when their cousin came over the ALL had to sleep in the same bed! So we borrowed gramma's air bed and set it up in the play room. This is how they lasted MOST of the night! That is until Slick KICKED Spike out onto those pillows stratigically placed there by mommy, "just in case"! I knew this would be a possiblity since Slick tends to end up SIDEWAYS in the bed!

I can't believe how long it's been since my last post! I REALLY wanted to stay current this year!
So, where have I been and what have we been doing? Well as you can see from the following pictures, we've been playing in the SNOW!!! At first, they LOVED it, but now, Slick just tells me he wants to stay inside and play. AW! He's SO like his mommy! Spike on the other hand, well let me just tell you, the complete opposite. He's BEGGING for me to let him go sledding on the ICE! When we're driving and he can see the SHINY layer of ice out over a field or hill, he always says, "Man, I'd LOVE to go sledding on that! That would be SO fun!" HAHA! Of course mommy says, "NO WAY, baby!"
So here's the "double trouble" sitting (sort of) still long enough to pose for a picture!
Of course, we MUST THROW snow..

By this day, I think it was Spike's favorite. He had gotten two blocks for his birthday last year but never got to build that snow fort! He would ask me every time it snowed, "Mom, is this the kind of snow?" To which my reply was always, "NO!" You need a LOT of snow for these things, so this year, he got his wish.

So he and daddy got to work. I didn't take a picture of the finished product, because as any of you who know Spike personally can imagine, he got about 1/4 of the way done and moved on to something else! HAHA! It's the thought that counts right?

So that's where we've been.

Also, there's been some birthdays and a very special visitor! I'll do my best to get caught up and STAY caught up! (I think I still have 1 or 2 Christmas posts too!)

I put the boys to bed tonight and they said what they say EVERY NIGHT. "Mommy, come and check on us when you go to bed!" To which I replied, "Of course, and it won't be long cause mommy's tired." Then I got the "How long?" "Why?" "What do you have to do?" "How many minutes?" blah, blah, blah... Finally Slick says, "well, when you come up, I want to go in your bed. You're the coolest girl I ever sleep with!"

Christmas Craziness Part 12

Back at my mom's it's FINALLY present time, for some anyway! My sister and her family got their gifts from my parents and the cousins exchanged gifts. Each one picked a name. Here are some of the gifts.
Slick with his MONSTER TRUCK! Which by the way, in case you were wondering, he LOVES!
Spike, got this cool t-shirt. I can't keep it clean!

And do you think the girls like their big gift from gramma! YUM! So no the gifts are open, they waste NO time trying them out.

The gift of the year for the boys this year was "Bey Blades!" I'm still not sure about them, but they LOVE them!

Such a good cousin she is...teaching the "baby" how to use it. She's so patient! Must by why they love her so much!

Can't call it a night till we ATTEMPT a "grandkids picture!" So here's the best we got this time!

So here we are Christmas Eve!
This year for us Christmas Eve and Christmas Day were a little different, ok, ALOT different. But it was still great!
One thing that stayed the same was we went to my aunt and uncle's house to watch for Santa to ride through town on the fire truck. (This is something I've been doing since I was about 5! Just couldn't go with out it!)
So, here we are out in the cold waiting.

Christmas Craziness Part 9

So here's where it really gets crazy!
We attempted gingerbread houses again this year. Only this time I invited ALL the cousins. Actually, for me it was GREAT! Each of the older ones were paired with one (or two) of the younger ones and they went at it. They had a blast doing it! I took a bunch of pictures but won't bore you with them all. Here are just the highlights!
This one, well, this was what the table looked like when they were done! (This is mostly for my sisters to see. I know Fave, you just can even look at it.) Don't worry, we got it all cleaned up. Yes, it took a while, but it was so worth it. The kids had a great time and I loved watching them all work together!

So here we are at Spike's Christmas Party at school.
What a good sport he was here. SUFFERING through the craft!
And here, such a GREAT big brother he was. Of course Slick was with us, but didn't get to participate in the little gift exchange. Spike was SO GOOD to him through the whole party. He included him in everything. He was just as excited about having Slick help him open his gift as he was finding out what was inside! This I think is my most favorite picture of the day!

Can't go wrong with this! Lots of fun!

And we've got to finish the day off with a gift and picture with his teacher! She's a FABULOUS teacher. We just love her! Thanks for all your hard work!

Christmas Craziness Part 7

So of course, part of the holiday tradition is to take as many "family pictures" as you can, right? Well, that's what we attempted to do one Sunday morning. The platform was just a perfect backdrop. So here's a sad attempt. Actually, this first one of the boys is great!

Then Spike had to have a turn. As you can tell by the blurriness of the pictures, that we're still working on those "ants in his pants!" I've never seen a kid move as much as he. His poor teacher. She deserves some sort of reward!

One night we grabbed another family and headed up to Christmas Village! The boys were so excited! Didn't get many pictures of the "village" itself, but got a few good ones of the kids.

Next came our visit to Santa! Thanks to our gracious hosts for the tree lighting, we've found a new place to go, with out having to go to the mall! This place was great. We walked right up to him, no waiting! He took as much time with the kids as they wanted. He would have talked all day! Even gave the boys candy canes! They thought it was great.

Although I have to add that we went for a little walk down the street to the bakery and on the way back Slick said, "Do we HAVE to go see him again? He's creepin' me out!"

So after we thawed from the parade, we bundled up again and headed to the oldest tree lighting in America. This was our first time, but will not be our last. We're thinking it's going to be a new tradition, thanks to our gracious hosts for the evening.

So, I'm going to try to catch you all up on what we've been doing to celebrate Christmas this year.
We "kicked off" our festivities with a parade, that is if you don't count putting up the tree (the night before Thanksgiving so I could watch that parade by the light of my tree!) Those of you who know me, know I LOVE a parade! So as you can see, we bundled up the kids, grabbed a few friends and headed out!

Here it comes! The horses start it off each year. Always a treat for the boys

So the excitement of Christmas break finally caught up with the boys tonight. They just could NOT fall asleep. So they asked if they could talk QUIETLY on Slick's bed! I agreed. They did talk quietly. They were so quiet, in fact, I had to check on them. So this is what I found! AW! My neck is hurting for them!

Spike had a "Thanksgiving Program" at school on Friday. He was the Mayflower! We worked on his lines for a few weeks. He was GREAT! He and Daddy worked together to make his Mayflower! Turned out pretty good.

Thanksgiving Party Time
